Camera Choice Help

Where going to Egypt next year and because of this I'm looking for a new Camera. Now, I don't know what I'm looking for but want a good camera to take some nice shots of the Pyramids/sunsets/etc.

One thing I like to point out is that I work for Olympus, and because of this I can get staff discount. Should I buy an Olympus camera or should I purchase another make ?

Re: Camera Choice Help

A mate of mine uses an E-510. Granted with a variety of lenses and varying degrees of digital processing, but his stuff is stunning.
I guess what I mean is, if the discount you get is significant, the Olympus system seems decent enough.

Re: Camera Choice Help

It depends on how big a discount you get. I've just sold a new E510 with the 14-45mm and 40-150mm lens for £400 to a customer (and I assume that there will be internet places cheaper than me, because it I'm a high street chain retailer...) If you can get it signicantly cheaper than that, I'd go for the Olympus (and think of all the tech support you'll get from buying in house etc.)

If not, then the usual things apply: go into a store and handle as many cameras as possible within budget and see which feels better. This way you'll illiminate alot of the choice and be able to shortlist a few and be critical on those. Then look for the best prices (dont forget all the cashback deals around still on Nikon and Canon cameras).

Re: Camera Choice Help

The first choice is compact or SLR? Olympus cameras use the 4/3 sensors on their SLRs like the E420 and E530. Their SLR cameras as small and relatively lightweight. You will need to try them out.

I would go for a D420/420 SLR over a compact camera from another brand like the Canon IXUS because the quality of the pictures are better. However, in good light many of the small compact cameras do take very nice pictures and their will be an abundance of light in Egypt.
