Find out if YOUR images are being used

Hi,

find out if YOUR images are being used elsewhere, now not sure if this has been posted before, I tried a search and didn't find anything on here so thought I'd post about it, if it has been mentioned before then apologies.

TinEye

It also has a Firefox plugin so can just right click on any image and it will try and find out where it being used.

So far I haven't found any of mine being used other than in my Smug account, so not sure how good it is, but thought I'd try it anyway.

Mike.

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

Hi,

I had to request an invite to use the programme, I had forgotten all about it until today, but for the life of me I can't find the request invite page, however the FF plugin is HERE

Will investigate further and get back to you about the invites.

edit: found it -Invite Request

Be patient wating on the invite being accepted it took mine a few hours to appear in my mail box

Mike.

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

I signed up to the tineye beta a couple of days ago and got my account today.

Very interesting. Couldn't find any of my shots duplicated on the net, but some of my flickr favourites from other flickr appear to be copies from other websites.

Watermarking your photos is obviously important. The tineye tool requires a certain file size to work, so if you post images too small, you will never find thet they have been copied.

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

So do you guys find this a common problem? And i'm guessing not much can be done about it.Technically it's theft of your work i suppose, but how do you prove it?

Depending on who it is.(ie if it's a blogger then I wouldn't really be too bothered but if its a profit making compnany then I'd make them pay for the use.) Care to give us an example? Then you can invoice them for your standard online image use charge. You are also intitled to damages/copyright infringment fee which a suggested amount is anything between 2-10x that charge. The more you charge them the more likely they are to dispute it. (I'm currently still in a legal battle over the use of one of my images without permission.)

I've just discovered a hotel using one of my images. I've done a print screen of their website and will be sending them an invoice for something in the region of 150-450 GBP. They do only look to be a very small business so I might be quite lenient on them depending on their response. But they will be paying me over £100.

I would agree with that. I've just gone through my whole flickr stuff (took about 30mins) and it didn't come up with a couple I know are on sites. But as I discovered one being used illeagally I would say it was still well worth it.

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

Allymac - which "version" are you searching for from your Flickr - do you go to the Large-sized file or is the photopage image itself the "same" image?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

I was actually doing it via flickriver as that means I don't get the images that are private and they are continually loading so I just need to scroll down.

But yeah if I do it through flickr but logged out so I don't get the private stuff you can't do it because of flickr's overlay.

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

Can you search for multiple images? or do you have to do a search for each one?

Re: Find out if YOUR images are being used

Gave this another go by using my most popular image from Fotolia.

I found 1 example of it's use - Despite 77 sales.

I know that many of the sales may have been destined for print, rather than the web - but it does make you think that the chances of finding any illegal use are slim - or you're only going to pick up a fraction of them.
