The Red Arrows as you may not have seen them before.

Here is a day in the Red arrows at Bournemouth Airport. They are here over the
weekend whilst they perform at local air displays. Some photo's are of poor
quality just to set the scene. I will post a few now & continue later with more.
I hope you like them. As always click on Pic for larger view.
I took these from the side of the runway on the road.

1.Lights On, Cloud of Smoke & there off to 'Middle Wallop'.

2. First 3 taking off.

3. Notice the reflection on the wing.

4. Cockpit.

5. Side by Side

6. And the gone, all in a few seconds.

Next the arrival back at Bournemouth Airport 30 minutes later.......

I went to Middle Wallop, £37.00 entry with my six and a half year old son and suffering a memory card error, I am not happy

Re: The Red Arrows as you may not have seen them before.

....Now we have gone to the other end of the runway to await there return, from Middle Wallop

1.A peacefull Bournemouth Runway.

2. Here they come in the distance.

3. We get a mini display, they often do this.

4. Then they come in One...

5..... by one...

6.... by one

6... by one, a little soft but remember there is only a split second to get these photo's.

7. Last one.

8. And a once peacefull Bournemouth Runway.

Next the Red Arrows, the ground crew & the Pilots at FR........ watch this space!

PS. I have limited time to post more tonight, they went out again to Brize Norton/ Long Marston, I will post those later, but if anyone is in Bournemouth tomorrow these are the times.

Depart for Swanage 1148. Rtn 1224 (chance of mini display). Depart for Sunderland 1410. I expect they will be back to Bournemouth later in August.

Me NEVER

After all with these forums you have seen the begining & the end, it's just the bit in the Middle (wallop) you missed...

Seriously though, did you take the photo's & they didn't come out or did the card stop you from taking photo's. If it's the first there are programmes that may retrieve the photos. As for the second, I always take Two or more cards with me, that is a must for you in the future.

Re: The Red Arrows as you may not have seen them before.

On the ground.

1.Ariving back with the support team waiting.

2. Lining up

3. Pilot in cabin ready to get out.

4. Thumbs up

5.Red Arrows lorry. They hand out booklets etc for free to anyone watching the Arrows on the ground.

6. Maintaing the planes.

7.Spike...ahem

8. Cleaning the windows...

All this for free. Later 6 of the pilots came over & autographed the brocure's they had given away, I will display mine,
I'm really proud of it. I will post more tomorrow.

PS They fly back to Bournemouth tonight at 20.43. I will be up there. If the wind is the same direction then Matchams Lane
is the best place to photo' them.

The guy in No4 looks like the chap who tried twice for the team and never got in on that programme about them. Sure his nickname was something like Kermit.....He was from N.Z. I think....

Never knew they took of in formation like that......very cool......

Nice work.

How do manage to get on to the airfield, or do you work there ?

Thought security would have been really tight - or have you got one of those 1600m lenses they do on ebay for £80 ?

Re: The Red Arrows as you may not have seen them before.

1.Exhaust. I think the 3 pipes above are where they inject the colours. One for each colour.

2. Six of the Red Arrow pilots in formation.

3. Two now break rank, these are the ones who sneak up behind you whilst the others do there main display.

4. One of the Arrows took off without the others. Here in the small picture the pilot is getting ready, then click on the small pic & in the large
picture he puts something on his head.

5.Small Picture, helmet on, Large picture TWO pilots are ready.

6.And there off.

Later we went back this time to the end of the runway so we see the Red Arrows coming straight to us
& taking off over head. The sound is just fantastic. I took a Korean friend who had not seen them before
& as the first three went over head he ducked & fell over....

7. Off they go again, second time on this Saturday. This time to Brize Norton/Long Marston.

8.Over they go. One...

9. Two...

10. And Gone.

This time the times said they would return at about 8.45. Putting 2 & 2 together I thought that was
about the time of the Sun setting, so I put back our meal we were going to so I could take the
Red Arrows in the Setting Sun. To get the correct picture I had to go about 100 meters down a lane.
At this time of the evening the place is awarming with Mosquitos (I had forgotten) & I had no protection,
so I'm down the lane swishing these B'dy Moss'es looking like a nutter. Today I've alump on my head
& my arms have bites over them...anyhow I waited & waited & waited, No Arrows....
Today my wife was in Asda & recognised one & asked him what happened, he said they came in early......
However ONE came in Late & this is the shot I got.

11. By now the Sunset was long gone & I was well bitten however.....

12. ....there was just enough colour in the sky to get this picture with my slow at night lens.

Today (Sunday) they depart to Swanage at 11.48 & return at 12.24. They then depart for Sunderland at 14.10.

I'll be there.....................

Ahoy!

Do you work for FRA, Cobham or FRL? No way you get that close @ FRA without a pass or being an employee. I KNOW!

Nice pics . . Like the thumbs up one too. I need a pass for the family day at the end of August during the Bournemouth Airshow (need to get up close to the BoB flight 'n all). Can do?

I don't work for FR. There is a lane that runs alongside FR with a wire fence & a gate. You are only about 5 meters from the nearest Red arrow & about 50 yards from the furthest. One family were lucky & were inside with the Arrows & had there photos taken with the pilots next to the planes.

I don't know if it is him or not. I did record the programme at the time & have kept it on DVD. When I find it I'll check it out.

Most of the photo's were taken at one end of the runway or the other. You can park a car near & walk or ride a bike. Some were taken from the road at the side of the runway. The 'Sunset' one was taken from a lane (Matchams lane). As I've said before, I had to walk down the lane to get the right position for the Plane/Sunset as there is no parking on the lane at that point.
Most of the photo's were taken with my Canon 70-300 IS & some with the Sigma 18-200 OS.

Thank you for all your kind comments.

Absolutely brilliant set of shots. They give a real insight into all that goes on before and after a display. They also add to the 'magic' of the Red Arrows in my opinion. Looking at them makes me feel like a kid again.

Re: The Red Arrows as you may not have seen them before.

I went back on the Sunday & took loads of pictures every time they took off & landed & have loads more shots I am very pleased with. The day before (Saturday) 6 of the pilots signed their autographs on a booklet that is handed out. On Sunday the Red Arrow Pilots came over & signed there autographs on a poster, that is again handed out, this time all Nine autographed the poster. Needless to say I am over the Moon. I will frame both booklet & poster & it will be proudly displayed in my house. Anyhow here are the pictures of the poster & one last photo of the Arrows.

1. The Poster

2. The Pilots with the Autographs.

3. Last one I am posting of the Red Arrows for this collection.

Again, thanks to all who viewed & to those who gave kind comments on the Photo's.

Good work....I was right...that is the guy who didn't get in on the tv show (RED TWO). Graham Duff was also in it. Before joining the Arrows I believe he trained pilots using the same plane the Arrows use.

Anyway, great pics

I forgot to point out that, whilst talking to one of the pilots, he said there is another Red Arrow TV programme coming this Autumn.
