Help, Nikon 55-200mm Lens....

Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Nikon D40 after reading loads on the forum...
I’ve only got the 18-55mm lens that came with it but I would like to get some more zoom, i think it’s now time to buy some more kit, I think the 55-200 lens will be good for me now and I’ve been looking at the VR ones at Jessop’s but seen these ones at Argos today, it seems like the same lens but £100 less... What do you think? Is that cheap? What’s the catch?

The titles are different but they look the same to me...

The difference is VR (Vibration Reduction) The more expensive version has it, the cheaper doesn't.

I was looking at that 2, and then looked at the photo argos have on their website, it's the vr lens on the picture but... that means nothing.

Now, having googled for the 55-200 VR the cheapest i could find was £150.....

I'll go to Argos tomorrow to confirm if they are selling the VR or not.

Good point - didn't spot the VR on the picture of the Argos one. A quick look at this shows that it can be had for as little as £127 - but the supplier is questionable.

That's the problem... would you recomend this lens for a newbie? I'm happy with the 18-55mm but need more zoom in some ocasions... I think the 70-300mm will be too much.

I got this lens and more than happy with it. You really need the VR though as its not a fast lens hence the price.
