Insect sheds it's skin

The other day I posted this photo of the unknown insect with a wasp on it's head. After a few days the thing has still not moved so decided to prod it and see what occured.
Nothing happened so picked it up and low and behold its just the skin left so brought it inside (much to the disgust of the wife) and take a couple of photos.

Cool. Now you have the skin at your disposal, you might want to take a photo with a different background, and also with better lighting to remove the shadow.

While I agree with you on the background (a pine sideboard is probably not that good a backdrop tbh) I think the shadow gives it a more menacing look

Possibly - how about using an off camera flash, so the shadow is slightly to the side. Not that I want to give you extra work for the sake of it
Does the first pic look better as is, or rotated? It's making me dizzy.

Actually you are right there, the first pic may look better rotated.

Re: Insect sheds it's skin

If you want menacing...

Dark room, dark backdrop, use a LED light as a light source and a slow shutter.....
