Anyone know where is the best place to buy the above in Dubai, I know it will not be as cheap as America.

also Will it be cheaper then UK internet prices?

Just got back myself mate,

Noticed a few things:

1. Not really that much cheaper, even though they're tax free I didn't really notice any AMAZING deals to make me draw for the wallet.

2. Buy a UV filter.

3. Haggle !

4. My recommendations for photography shopping:

a) Deira City Centre Mall (D.C.C) - one of the main electronics malls in Dubai.
b) Emirates Mall or Mall of Emirates - the biggest mall in Dubai for the time being.
c) Duty Free (at the Airport)
d) Bur Dubai - old dubai. A lot of photography shops here. Make sure you haggle, many of the shop keepers will bargain down 90% the original price. Remember to convert back to sterling (7.2:1) to see if you're making a saving.

Take a hat and some sunglasses , its REALLY hot out there.

p.s. the cheapest place/ time to buy was last month.

i bought my 40D at Dixons tax free, and then claimed cash back. Worked out at roughly £450 for the 40D lens kit.

Thats a really good price, how good do you think they are with keeping a good amount of stock in. I am thinking of the 450D but at that price a 40D is fantastic.

I find Dixons at the airport as cheap as most places abroad. Dubai is good for watches and gold but not too hot on cameras.

The current airport price for a 40D with 17-85mm lens kit is £731 here. Last months cashback of £140 took mine down to £591 - I think geniusworking got his sums wrong. If you are not traveling soon perhaps wait and see if Canon reintroduce the offer.

I won't be travailing until October, I can't see Canon doing cash back offers that close to xmas

Last year I priced my Nikon VR 70-300MM in Mall Emirates it was £35 dearer then UK based Internet dealers

my sums were out by a bit though. ill say I paid best part of £550.

i can believe that,

at the moment memory is quite expensive out there. I was quoted £35 for a 4GB CF Card that looked fake.

Dubai used to be cheap esp. for cameras and other electronics years ago. I always found Bur Dubai was way cheaper than the malls and you can grab a pint at the G&D while you're at it!! I haven't been for 3 or 4 years now though but the only time we noticed it was worth buying stuff was during one of the shopping weeks. I'm afraid the UAE is now a victim of its own success....
