I want a high quality compact, and will probably go for the TZ5 although I think the G9 is better - but it's a bit bulkier!!!

Am I making the right choice,and was lloking to buy a 4gb orn 8 gb card - is there an optimum card speed for these cameras, and am I wasting my money getting the really fast cards.

Finally anyone know a single outlet where I can get the above at sensible prices.

I've not used any of the TZ series cameras, but have a G9, and can recommend it. It's definitely a bit more bulky than others, but I think it's in a different class really.

I think they're both good cameras - I've heard good things about the Pannys; the best thing to do would be to have a play with them really and see which one you like the feel of, and which gives you what you need.

In terms of cards, I wouldn't bother skimping and getting a high capacity cheap brand. Better to get lower capacity good brand (e.g. SanDisk). I've got a couple of SanDisk Extreme IIIs for my G9 and they're plenty fast enough. Slower versions of these cards would likely also be plenty fast enough. Probably safer to get 2x4GB rather than 1x8GB etc in case anything does happen to it. At least you won't have all your eggs in one basket, and will still have a spare to hand.

Agree about 2 x 4gb. But if the camera technology cannot cope with the Extreme III, is there any point?

To be honest, the only reason I got those particular cards was because they were very cheap at the time. I may have gone for something slower if that wasn't the case. I've no idea what the write speed is of the cameras, but like you say, I doubt that the card would be the bottle neck.
