Does anyone know if Sony have built in any protection system into their
A series DSLR"s ( as they do in some of the camcorders ) to prevent third party batteries from working ?

Dont think so as i use a third party (generic) battery in A100

Sorry mate, cant remember where i got it from last year, i think i just googled to find one, ie sony a100 batteries, its been as good as the sony one and cost about £10 i think, but have always bought generic batteries over the last 4 years from different places for different cameras and all have been great.

A100 generics are OK (if you get a good copy), but for A700, you need genuine. Dunno about A200/300/350.

Thanks for the replies , its a compatable for the A200 I was looking for , found 1 for A100 but it made no mention of suitability for A200.
Anyone know if the 100 batt fits the 200 ?

A200/300/350/700 are the same (so I've just discovered). Try Argos for a reasonable price. A100 has a flat back. For A200 etc, it has a groove in the battery, so no, you can't use A100 battery in A200 (or in A700 in my case).
