Even though car shots aren't popular...

...I thought I'd post some anyway

I did a quick photoshoot of my brothers' VX220 on Saturday evening after he'd spent a few hours cleaning/polishing it before a club run on Sunday. The main reason I took them was to have a first go of off camera flash since I got my poverty wizards!

The reason for the light positioning was that the car has just been re-trimmed by a local company who want some shots for their website as it's the first VX they've done. I figured that it was as good an opportunity as any to get some shots together for them and hopefully get some more work from them for other re-trim jobs they do.

1) Door card detail

Door cards aren't the easiest parts of the car to make 'interesting' so I went for a bit of distortion.

2) Interior detail

Due to the time of day, the shadows were a bit harsh but I tried to counteract them with the bare flashgun pointed directly at the steering wheel. My plan was to create some sharp contrasts between the materials used in the cabin.

And finally....

3) Full exterior HDR

I know you all love an HDR () so thought I'd include this one. No off-camera flash.

All images are clickable for larger versions and there are some more shots on my Flickr page.

Cheers
Steve

All nice shots, including the HDR

For a company trying to promote their trim you could also get up real close to the detail of the trim too, these kind of shots are well used to show quality etc.

Have a look at Gordons Lamborghini shots he posted an age ago to see what I am getting at.

Re: Even though car shots aren't popular...

Cheers Steve (especially the HDR compliment )

Good suggestion about the close up trim detail shots. These first shots were just for my brother but I'll sort out some more time with the car and a second flashgun so I can setup some product shot style images.

It's funny you should mention Gordon's Lambo shots, I've had that thread in my Favourites since Gordon posted it as a reference for when I finally got hold of my wireless kit (Now I just need to get Blue Peter-ing and make a few snoots!)

Cheers

Re: Even though car shots aren't popular...

Cheers Senu

The comment about car shots not being popular was in reference to this thread the other day;

Audi S3 and Ford RST

And in particular;

"Nice cars but as photographs go " Then again, maybe I've taken the comment the wrong way. :0)

And it's good to see another vote for the HDR

Cheers
