recommended courses?

Hi,

Does anyone know of a fairly cheap photography course - preferably in london and in fashion or portrait? Possibly fine art. *edit* Fine in the sense of people - the standard type stuff that is low light with a woamn laying on her front and you can see the curve of the bum and dip in the back - not art such as a flower etc.

I would like to give something a try that will make the most out of the camera rather than just taking it to the zoo etc.

Been looking online but most are many hundreds of pounds.

I see pictures that look great and realise there are many things i know nothing about!

Cheers

Re: recommended courses?

to be fair that kind of stuff i cant imagine is easy to get into. reason being, for most of these shots you need a good lighting kit, which your average photographer doesnt have. The best way to learn is by doing... so get your missus (or if you havent got one, go get one) to lie down in the buff and break out some decent lights

PS I am not responsible for you getting slapped asking women to pose for you.

Re: recommended courses?

unfortunately courses outside of the point and shoot/ basic photoshop types do tend to cost a lot of money as they are otherwise unfunded.

There are a number of other forums set up to allow want to be photographers to meet up with want to be models with neither charging but the photographer giving the model copies of the files. Ultimately it is up to you if you want to do this knowing that all the photos may be rubbish and no use to the model etc.

This type of photography does often involve studio flash and so either you have to invest in a set of lights or set aside the money for hiring a studio (again on the forums some will go halves given it is for mutual benefit)

Re: recommended courses?

Thanks,

The reason I was after a course rather than trying at home is mainly becuase i could try forever and not know what i am doing - whereas I would hope at a course someone would say 'put aperture to this, shutter to this, stand here when light is over there' etc.

i have been looking at http://www.urbanphotography.co.uk/training.php

They seem to be reasonable and its a start into something i might be able to progress with.

Re: recommended courses?

Might be worth taking a look at DVD training.....???

Take a look at: http://www.photolearn.co.uk/

Not the most polished DVD's, but very informative on the use of studio equipment, which might help you get the most out of time in a studio (on a course)
