Need A New Compact but too many to choose from!

Jesus this is fun, eBay now changed how you search for things making it soo hard to find a decent compact! By this i mean u get loadsa of rubbish camera come up constantly and can't choose what mega pixel range the camera must be in! Grrrrrrrr

If anyone can help me i need a new one in the next two weeks, a good one at that!

Basically here's a list of what i want...

9 mega pixels or more
3x time optical zoom or more
some nice features, i.e. timer, face recognition, the thing that stops blurring cos im shaking
Pocket size

I've been looking at the anon Ixus series and would preferably want a camera which is made by a known camera brand, i.e. Canon, Nikon, Panasonic or Sony with the edition to Casio as my brothers one is quality.

I love arty farty photography and still use my 35mm when im doing serious shots but want a digital camera to show me what these shots will look like.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Dave

Re: Need A New Compact but too many to choose from!

The Canon IXUS series would be my choice. There are so many to choose from. More megapixels does not always mean better image quality. With the tiny sensors in these compact cameras, more mexapixels sometimes means more picture noise.

Seven or eight megapixels cameras will probably give just as good results.

The other thing to watch out for is battery life. A 3in LCD may look nice, but does it drain more power than a 2.5in LCD. Some of the recent models run out of juice quickly, so a spare battery is essential. Some of the IXUS models have plastic cases, and other are made of metal. Some people like an optical viewfinder like the 950 - saves battery if you have the LCD switched off.

Face recognition and image stabilisation are good features.

Check out the features of the IXUS 950 here.

you could also look for the Fujifilm f47fd which is still £99 at Currys, but I'm sure I've seen it for about £90. It's 9mp, has IS, face detection, Super CCD and a few good options on it too.

Just got myself a 950 last week, very nice too.

Got it from Argos for £149.99 plus free 2gb Sandisk SD Card. Very happy for the price
