my 1st pics from my DSLR or any SLR

i got my sony a200 on monday and i`ve not really had much time to play with it but i really like it, lots to learn about though.

there are 12 different setting`s to use.

what one would i use in somewhere like Egypt where everything thing seems yellow????

what one would i use in the garden for non macro ????

well here are the best from what i`ve taken so far with it.

i can`t wait to understand all of it a bit more.

Change the aperture to something higher. f/3.5 or a small number under f/8 will throw the background out of focus, moreso when the object you are photographing is closer to the lens. If you want to retain detail all the way through use a higher aperture number and focus further away. This will of course affect the shutter speed as you are making the 'hole' smaller and so letting in less light so the 'hole' needs to be open for longer to get a correct exposure.

If you take pictures in the RAW mode, then you don't have to worry about this as you can adjust the white balance afterwards in a photo-editing program such as photoshop.

Re: my 1st DSLR or any SLR pic`s

That's because you have put the page address in image brackets
Put it in link brackets

For an image click on the photo you want, go to sizes at the top of the photo
then under the photo you will see in a box a link address (NOT THE BIG ONE)
copy the small one into [image] [mage] box on here

Edit, just had a look and you have "all right reserved" you can't link photos with is on

Re: my 1st DSLR or any SLR pic`s

Sorry to hi-jack this thread, I just wanted to test this myself.

I was having trouble doing this from the FAQ thread. I was having the same problem, the link was showing not the photo.

Went onto Flickr and changed the rights and it looks OK now.

Also with an a200.

Oh, and another pointer, I think the ideal maximum size of any image posted on the forums is 800 pixels on it's longest side.

Re: my 1st DSLR or any SLR pic`s

That's a solid enough shot (can only see the garden ornament one). Ok, not particularly interesting but it's in focus and decently exposed. As for the background not being focussed (although I only read that as a quote in another post, not sure where it was originally), I see that as a bonus.
Now you've sorted how to take a photo and get it on here, go out and take lots more and get 'em posted.
