advice on an f2.8 zoom - Nikon

Hi All,

I am looking save enough to get a decent 2.8 vr zoom lens - after using the 50mm 1.8 a fair bit i really want that effect with zoom.

the nikon 70-200 vr is over £1000 which is a lot of money. Are there any third party alternatives that are known to be good.

I am happy to zoom above 200 but i dont really want to be going to far over 70 at the short end.

It is for a D80.

Thanks

I've just got a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 ex lens from Jessops which is very good for the money, non HSM clearance so I got it for £440 but the newer replacement is around £650 I think

The new version of the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 is also getting good initial feedback, can be had for around £500-£530 if you hunt around (RRP is £600, I believe).

I have one of the non VR Nikon 80 - 200 F2.8's, got it recently from One Stop for around £450 (I think), am very pleased with it.
