Experimenting

Been reading a great book (The Photographers Eye by Michael Freeman) which has encouraged me to try some different (simpler) stuff.
I'd really welcome a bit of feedback on this. Feel free to be brutal

Re: Experimenting

That a very nice shot there.
Some sky detail may have been nice but I'm not sure about better. I also wonder if it could take a bit more crop from the left.

Just IMHO and all that.

Re: Experimenting

I like the lines of light on the grain leading up to the tree. Only downside is the tree looks a little sunken below the horizon. Might be worth a reshoot from further up the hill.

Re: Experimenting

Comments much appreciated guys

@Denno - The sky in the original shot wasn't blown out but there was nothing of interest there. In any case, I blew it out in PP quite deliberately (FWIW) to focus attention elsewhere (and enhance contrast).

@Tobers - I guess (indirectly) you raise the question of whether the subject is the tree or the grain. Not entirely sure of the answer to that, to be honest. I guess I see the tree as the focal point, but the light on the grain as the main feature....if that makes sense? At the time of shooting, I couldn't get anything like this degree of contrasty lighting from the higher vantage point needed to get the base of the tree in frame.
