A whole new (ish) World

has opened up with getting a DSLR

I had just about given up photography with my kids almost grown up

Having used an Olympus OM10 with just a 50mm for over 20 years, some wonderful pix

fed up with all the hassle of film

The World of DSLR and computers is light years ahead and I'm finding it wonderful and I just can't find enough time to play

I still want to the best shots I can from the camera without having to process if at all possible and as you can shoot so many without having to worry about film , it make life a lot easier

Are you bored yet??

Then I'll stop

I do, I think many people just do not realize how stunningly good these cameras are and the results even a complete beginner can get Straight away

Re: A whole new (ish) World

DSLRs have improved in quality, and dropped in price. I dont even think of film anymore.. Such is the quality you can get from Digital in 2008
You will find it a great way to spend time ( and money..)
One thing you shouldn't be shy of is the need to use software.
How much or little of it you use is up to you as long as the results please you
It is a bit of a skill but simply enhancement is not rocket science TBH.. my 8 and 11 year Old already do it
It is ( also) neither a "nerdy" thing nor is it a failure to get the photo well in the first place
What it is is enhancing what you painstakingly got in the first place, and realising that in the heyday of film , a lot of it happened in the darkroom way before the prints were made
As the advert goes " every little helps"

Yeah the cost can even in the entry level, look to be expensive BUT the quality and easy of use is outstanding even at this level

Because of that, for most people, I feel you are more likely to use the camera much more than you would have done with film

I know for sure that if I had a DLSR 20 years ago, I would have taken thousands more of my kids instead of the hundreds I have

Worth every penny in my book

Re: A whole new (ish) World

With the help of a fellow forum member I have been able to convert a freind to digital from film, she was spending loads on film while doing a C & G course, now she has a DSLR she has become much free'er in her apporoach and is trying out thngs she never would because of the lack of running costs.

My camear is on something like 24,000 actuations now - equivilant to over 650 rolls of 36 exposure film - say £5 a go for developing with the sort of place that throws in a free film - £3,300 and counting - my gear is only worth around the £1,000 mark so I am quids in, although I probably would not have taken anywhere so many if it had been film.
