Harlequin Ladybird

An image I took last Sunday of a Ladybird sitting on a flower bud. Unfortunately it is an invasive Harlequin ladybird, a species from South East Asia that is wiping out indiginous species of ladybird.

Taken with Nikon D50, Tamron 90mm macro 1/60 s, f16, ISO200, diffused onboard flash.

Mike

Re: Harlequin Ladybird

Not seen one of those yet, seen more black ones with red spots more than the usual red ones so far. Might not be long before I see one though according to the sightings on this site: http://www.harlequin-survey.org/

Oh yea, nice picture!

Re: Harlequin Ladybird

Nice shot Mike. Given your comments I trusted you swatted the little beggar after taking it

Thanks all.
I was going to swat him, but he must have read my mind because he flew off before I could get him.
It is quite worrying seeing the map on the survey site how quickly they are spreading north
