hk sellers

hellos, im currently looking into upgrading my camera-yes, already!

iv been looking into sellers in hong kong on ebay and there seems to be some pretty impressive deals. one in particular, digitalrev seems to be a decent looking company with great feedback and they have own website and stores etc too.

looking at the nikon d300, you can get that, the battery grip, the sb800 flash, the 18-200vr lens, an extra battery and a 4gb cf card for 1555 including delivery and whatsmore, guaranteed they will refund the vat if any?!

whats people opinions on using them? is there anywhere else i should be looking?!

Do cameras have a DOA ratio? i have no idea, but if they do and you`re one of the unlucky ones, what then?

Lenses and other bits yeah for sure. But i`d be wary on the body.

well they have uk call centre and it states that they pay for return postage on their website if its manufacturers fault which DOA would be.

Re: hk sellers

Be careful!! I bought two lenses from Hong Kong and still ended up paying some duty This was asked for my the shipping company (UPS in both cases) and was about 10% of the purchase price. Then it got worse; my 18-200VR lens developed a fault and then I found out that Nikon have a very strict policy about eBay purchases - they will not repair them under warranty unless you can show a receipt from an authorised Nikon dealer - a Paypal receipt is worthless

Proceed with caution

Re: hk sellers

I've not used DigitalRev myself but from but heard good things from comments on other forums. Also check the feedback where it does seem they have no problems with refunding VAT where they've promised to do so. I'd use them if I was in the market for new gear.

Re: hk sellers

I wouldn't buy a camera from HK but have just bought a Tamron 17-50 from HK as the lenses have international warranty. If you get stung on import taxes one stop digital refund them back to you. At £50 cheaper than any other UK supplier I thought it was worth a try

Re: hk sellers

Igot my D50 from Digitalrev a couple of years, and everything was fine. I had to pay for the duty when the camera was delivered, but i just had to email a scanned copy of the duty invoice to digital rev with details of how i wanted it paying and this was refunded in a couple of days. Digital rev also have a uk centre where you can send any faulty items aswell.

I would use them again.

Have a look here http://www.digital-cameras.com/ the prices might be comparable with the 30% off

Re: hk sellers

hi
i have bought several thinks from HK buyers from ebay.
Buying lens and accessories are ok but careful of the customs. I have been stung with it twice over the last 2 months.

IMO i would not buy a camera from there. The warrenty is return to site which could cause issues since it takes 5-10days in transportation.

It is worth paying a little extra to get a uk 1 year warrenty. I went through the same dilema when buying my 40D last week. I finally went for Jessops since there was only a difference of £50 between HK and Jessops.

Good luck on ur buy.

Re: hk sellers

Pricing up what they are offering I'd spend a little extra and buy from UK based suppliers, you seem to be able to buy all those bits seperately for pretty much what that package costs. Is the walkaround lens your mostly after? I just wondered whether you could try your kit lens for the time being and buy the 70-300mm VR (another option)

Re: hk sellers

i had a look on digital-cameras but they dont have any d300's in stock!

as for the walkabout lens, im not overly fussed with the 18-200vr, its a good lens but my fifty is never off the camera at the moment and me thinks that will be the case when i upgrade too.

its just a rather handy lens to have and i know once i get over the fifty il prob start using it as my everyday lens.

anyone know any particular good deals on the d300 right now? i can live without the flash and 18-200 but def want a battery grip and another lens. total budget around 1500 or thereabouts.

Re: hk sellers

I bought a Sigma "Bigma" 50-500 lens from DigitalRev - service was superb, and I had no problems reclaiming the duty costs.

A very big saving all in all.
