These may not be technically brilliant but I wanted to share this. There were four Red Kites (The birds) flying over our house so of course I had to shoot them! I remember years and years ago I went to a relative's farm in Wales and we were all excited to see one of these flying very high above us. We see them all the time in Reading now.

These were taken with a Canon 400D, 28-135mm IS, and a 2x teleconverter. I had to manually focus, so I think I was lucky for them to come out as well as they did. They were just quick snapshots, really. These pictures are cropped and resized.

I saw a bunch of these as I went down the M40 today. There looks to be some sort of bird watching tower just off the motorway.

Like the third one because it shows a bit of action. Had a similar experience last week, with the local rooks mobbing a White Stork which had somehow made its way to the frozen North of Perthshire. Must have followed the Ospreys.

#2 for me overall but I do like the way in #3 you've caught the bird looking round. I practice with seagulls locally and not easy bird in flight shots.

I only really posted the first one because it's unusual to see so many at once. Otherwise it's a pretty dull picture.

I like the second one, you can see the tracking tag on its right wing.

The third one is nicely composed but it could be sharper and the sky could have been more interesting.


As I said, I just wanted to share the sight.
