A few from my new 10-20

Well I bought my Sigma 10-20 on Saturday and took it out today for a test run to see how it performs.

First Impressions:

Wow it's wide, I mean seriously wide.
It focuses very close (24cm IIRC) which allows you to get really close to your subject and still capture it in it's entirety thanks to how wide it is.
It's very sharp, not quite as sharp as my 70-200 f/2.8 L but then not much is.
Whilst not suited to a lot of subjects it does lend itself to a lot of situations and gives enormous creative potential.

Anyway, here are my attempts from the day at the beach

Already have dozens of other locations in mind for this lens.

Looks like a nice sharp lens, I'm particularly drawn to the composition and colour in #3

Nice series

Re: A few from my new 10-20

Great set of photographs, well done very impressive

Got me thinking about the 10-20, i am off to Norway again in June, normally we go up North and stay with wifes family, but this year we are are having a holiday just for ourselves so we are going to Bergen in the South, which includes a trip up a mountain railway and a boat trip up a big fjiord, seems like the 10-20 is a must for this trip.
There, did not take me long to convince myself did it

Great set of images and a great start.
At the wide end it's a difficult lens to use but you seem to have it nailed already

Re: A few from my new 10-20

Cheers everyone. These photos were taken down on Worthing seafront and fishermen every day go out in those boats to set their nets and then sell their catch on the beach.

The only thing that went wrong for me on the day was that when I got home and looked on the computer I noticed that the top edge of my sensor was absolutely covered in dust!

Thanks to Aperture it was a simple job of removing these specs and I could even apply the same patches to multiple photos which saved me a lot of time.

Tokina 12-24 is worth considering as well, shall look forward to your Norway pics as it's a place I'm interested in visiting.

Re: A few from my new 10-20

Well, ordered the Sigma 10-20 from WarehouseExpress today, pressed the buy button, agh out of stock but decided to keep the order in as i dont really need it until my Norway trip in June.

I am not that up on landscape photography and i can see from the beautiful landscape photographs posted on here that an essential piece of kit is a filter.

Dont want to splash out loads of wonga on it, but what would be the most
convenient allround one to get, a77mm nd, nd grad or cpl.
Bearing in mind that i get easily confused with the relationship between stopping up/down etc and i already have a cpl for my 17-70 (72mm)

Your opinions would be very much appreciated

Well done that man

TBH Baz, I wouldn't be worried too much about a filter. The lens performs pretty darned well anyway! If pushed and sensing you'll be taking a fair few water pics I'd get a CP, don't bother with a ND, although a grad ND can be usefull if you'll be up against very bright skies and dark foregrounds, but again it'll be ok on its own.
Just enjoy - and watch you don't bump into things!

Very nice colours - I like the bouys and the fishing boat very much. It is a cracking lens for the money and opens up many new angles and compositions.

Excellent set..
I haven't used my Tokina 12-24 in a while this is inspiration to do so .. time to dust it methinks..well done
I ( this is personal) find the borders a tad overpowering. I think the pictures are fine with or without them..

Excellent shots - nice compositions and good strong, but pretty natural colours. Looks like you're getting good use from the 10-20.
