Just gave my Tamron 700 - 300 a try for the first time

After getting used to my new Canon 400D over the past week (my first proper camera), today I decided to give my
Tamron AF 70 - 300mm F/4 - 5.6 LD Macro 1:2 a try out.

I used the P (AE) camera mode where the shutter speed and aperture are set automatically. I used this mode rather than the fully auto mode as I wanted to shoot both Raw and JPEG which Basic mode wont allow (as I want to give photoshop a good try out during my 30 day trial).

The first thing I realised was how important image stabilisation is. Sadly, I don't have any and no matter how still I tried to keep the camera (leaning on a wall etc) the view through the viewfinder just wouldn't keep still.

However, rather pleasingly, all 20 shots came out clear (well not perfectly focused but no camera shake), which more than surprised me. I kept the ISO at 100 and most of the shots ended up at shutter speed 1/400.

Initially I thought Adobe fixed the shots as when I imported them into the PC using Adobe bridge, each time I first selected any of the pics, for a split second, the preview was blurred, then it adjusted and became clear. But since then, I've opened up the pics directly from the memory card in windows paint, and they're not blurred there either.

Had a fun time. No pics worth posting, wasn't worried about composition etc, was just testing the lens. I do think that I need to save up for a IS lens though

best

Phil
