Suggestions for sub Bridge size camera

Hi all,

Sorry yet another, can someone suggest thread.

I am looking for suggestions for a camera that is smaller than a bridge (camera that is) but still produces good quality pictures.

I currently have D300 which is great but often too big to just carry along, I also have a casio Z1000 which travels with me whenever I am off. It's good for quick shots but nothing special for quality work. So really looking for something reasonable size to carry.

I used to have a Casio P600 which was about right but that died (and got replaced by the Z1000), this was about the right sort of size I am thinking and I have considered getting a 2nd hand one, but as it is a 5 years out of date I would like something newer. Not too worried about Megapixels as long as 6 or over.

Also I don't really need video modes, but would like some level of manual intervention (Aperture mode etc).

I will leave the price and make open for now within reason (a Leica M8 would be nice but a bit too much).

thanks

Paul

Re: Suggestions for sub Bridge size camera

Ahoy!

Can yo give a guide on the folowing:

Price guide
Size (bridge camera sizes do vary) - so are you wanting pocket or compact if not bridge?
Image stabilised?
Optical zoom length.

A few spring to mind. Canon A720 IS and SX100 IS (compacts) and the Sony DSC-H50 (not in the shops yet). The latter would be in the Panasonic DMC-FZ8 ballpark in terms of type, though is it to big or not as big as you thought? Maybe wrong type for you. Check it out anyway.

Canon also have the G9, but maybe check the reviews/previews first.

Re: Suggestions for sub Bridge size camera

Hi Pirate,

Price is open.
Size, large pocket/compact say under 400g (under 300 would be better).

Optical zoom and IS would be good.

Actually the spec of the Sony H50 does look a good match, so will be keeping an eye out for any reviews of that one.

Cheers

paul
