One for the Birders

Anyone know what this bird is - photographed at Frensham Pond yesterday. Think it is a Grebe but not sure.

Beautiful birds. The courtship is worth trying to capture as are the strange, stripey chicks.

I'll never forget my first encounter with one. I was around 14 & had been night-fishing. It was just getting light, the lake was perfectly flat & an eerie mist was floating on the water. The bugger must have dived somewhere out of sight as this head just emerged from the still water in front of me....
