Canon Powershot A650 IS or A720 IS

I am in a bit of a pickle at the minute chaps. Looking a decent camera for holiday this year since i've never had photographs of holidays before and i need a camera for basic point and shoot on holiday, but also so i can have a mess about with when I come home, for the likes of ebay and such, or taking photographs of an awesome system when I get round to it (won't be soon anyway

). Was on a budget of £200

Was initially looking at an A640 ages ago when they were on offer with the cashback, working out at £120 odd.
Then lately I have been considering the A720 IS thanks to recommendations from reading pirate!!'s posts. Unfortunately camerabox haven't got it in stock and it was meant to be instock last friday and now today, so I am getting a tad impatient and noticed that canon have their cashback offers on again while browsing buyacamera.

So basically I can get the A650 for around £160 inc delivery if I can find a tasty deal somewhere.
The A720 IS has a £30 cashback which is great but it states on canon's website that only jessops are supplying the A720IS and it is £150 over there. Not really working out at a great deal with a fiver cheaper in the end

I am really confused on this and hopefully someone could give me some guidance please.

I do apologise for the story though, couldnt think of any way to condense it down lol.

Yea i went to use them mate, but it turned out they are in the US. So i'd be buggered on warranty unfortunately

Found a 10% off code for jessops last night for the A720 IS. Works out at £104, but then i couldnt resist the £38 two year accidental damage cover. Going to pick it up either today or saturday in store for £142. A proper steal

Really! Canon are doing a £30.00 cashback for that model as of today till the end of March. Get the reciept and make sure it's dated from 20th March onwards. Send it off with the claim form (from Canon UK website), and get £30.00 back. £74.00 nett. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about.

Went on Jessops website. Camera is £149.99 - 10% (coupon code). How did you get £104.00?

Maybe try Jessops. I've posted on other threads. There is a Jessops 10% off code plus Canon are doing £30.00 cashback on the A720 IS. Nett price after all discounts/rebates is £104 and a few pence.

Hi everyone, I'm considering getting the A720 too, but I'm trying to decide between the A720 and a Panasonic Lumix TZ2 http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...a/Product.html. I read the reviews of each on trustedreviews.co.uk, and they both seem pretty good.

I think what I really like about the Panasonic is the monstrous zoom! But with the Canon I get the ever so useful optical viewfinder which is quite hard to find nowadays. I'm a little put off, however, by the Canon's reportedly poor battery life. So, two very similar cameras as far as I can see - would anyone be able to help me decide?!? Thanks guys!

Why TZ2? Is it price? Can't advise on TZ2, though.

As for battery life, if you get a set of decent mAh rechargables, then that ought to do nicely for the Canon. DMC-TZ3 might be a better choice, but if you are going into that price range, then you might as well opt for the FZ8.

Thanks Pirate - Yeah, it's the price of the Panasonic that's tempting, but I am leaning towards the Canon. I've got 4 2500mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, I'd assume they'd be sufficient for the Canon?
