Re: Photography Exhibitions/Galleries in London Village

I'd always recommend a walk down South Bank between London Bridge and Waterloo with a visit en route into the Tate Modern

If you want some good food on the go, you could pop into Borough Market (just by London Bridge)

As is the Hayward:

Not been here but keep meaning to go (always seem to have interesting stuff showing):

And the national portrait gallery is always worth a visit:

Re: Photography Exhibitions/Galleries in London Village

edit - Just realised ChrisW also sent a link - must learn to read first then post later.

Hi

There is the photographer of the year exhib on until 28th April at the Natural History musuem in Kensington. I've always enjoyed going even if it does cost 8 quid or so.

Have fun,

Mark.

Re: Photography Exhibitions/Galleries in London Village

If you are going to Photographers Gallery then go to the Portrait Gallery as it's just a minute round the corner. If you book now you cna probably get tickets for the Vanity Fair 100 yrs show. It's lots of porraits from Vanity Fair from the 1900's to now. Some really excellent shots there. I went with my wife last week...I found the Annie Liebowitz ones stood out for me with some other really excel shots from Helmut Newton amongst others. I thought it was worth the entrance fee....but you will need to book if you are going at weekend I think.

There are other photo's in the portrait gallery as well though..currently a Bryan Adams series (ie photos he took not photo's of him) and quite a few others.

I'd agree with this one - I went in February and it was well worth the entrance fee; it was superb. Some of the photos were amazing too. Even my 7 year old son enjoyed it - he was expecting to be bored and I had to drag him out of the dinosaurs bit but he was pleased he went in the end....

Re: Photography Exhibitions/Galleries in London Village

Not really a skate park but the bmx'ers and skaters congregate in an undercroft area right beside the National Theatre on South Bank. Just go to the National and walk around and you can't miss it.....

Gordon

p,s, oh.....and watch out if you use flash....I got some serious abuse off a guy who felt my flash photography was the reason he kept falling off.....his mates were fine with it....but then again...they never fell off.....

This map doesn't show it, but walk from waterloo station to the royal festival hall - and get the the edge of the river. Head east and it will be on the right somewhere - roughly here

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl...=19&iwloc=addr

It's quite cool, but alot smaller than it used to be. To get the best from it, make sure you ASK PERMISSION to photograph the skaters - you'll end up getting to know them a bit more, they'll be willing to do tricks for you and you won't scare them off / p**s them off. Most were very friendly guys when you talk to them.

I spoke to a few recently, and they get really hacked off with people photographing them all the time without asking (esp tourists) - they said they may stop going there to skate. Some skaters are semi-pros and sponsored to ride, and it meant they were very camera shy - ie their sponsors ask that any photos that are published should be vetted first and ensure that sponsors logos are worn and suitable - and if they are in the park, unaware, they may not be wearing the 'correct' gear etc....I was assured this had caused problems in the past.

Have fun.

Mark.

Re: Photography Exhibitions/Galleries in London Village

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I think we might try the Natural History Museum as I've not been there for yrs and checkout the photo exhibition in there.

Might not get too much time to do a lot more, plus the weather looks like being not very "outdoor-friendly" !

I also want to visit Davenports magic shop that I have yet to checkout. Magic is another passion
