I just sold my 1st photo on Fotolia UK

I have just sold this image

on Fotolia.com and I'am well chuffed!

Only thing is its sold and I have credits in the account and I'm not sure what happens next.. Its shows it sold for 20 credits and 1 credit = £0.57. Do you have to sell certain amount before they send payment or what do you do with the credits? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!! I still sold 1 though and that will do for me.

Nice one iceman!
Not sure how many you need for a cash withdrawal - probably some round figure like £50 or £100.
Upload more and sell more... you could let it build up like a savings account to pay for new toys

Well done on your first sale.

You'll make 10 credits from this sale, which nets you £5.70, it'll cost you a credit for each withdrawl, so it's best to wait until you you have a decent amount befor cashing in.

You can have the money placed in a paypal account - which is handy you use ebay for your minor photographic purchases. From there you can have it placed directly into your bank account.

Cheers Liquid101 for that info mate........That helps. I will wait I think but will have to look at the settings and see how that is done, moving it to paypal. But 1st it may be a good idea to setup a Paypal account. Will have to do that.

It took just over a year to sell 1 so ................I should be about 70 by the time I have enough for a Sigma 70-300APO....Mmmmmmm!!

Cheers Liquid101

Re: I just sold my 1st photo on Fotolia UK

Whilst the amount of money you earn is quite small unless you are producing shed-loads of happy-business-type-people shots or goldfish jumping out of bowls, there is something addictive about Fotolia, iStockPhoto and the like.

I've recently gone over 100 sales on Fotolia though I dont have that many pics on. Crossing the 100 threshold allows you to change the pricing on your pics - it's set to 1 credit minimum below 100 sales. I've now doubled all my prices on the basis that it's just a small amount and nobody will really notice, and today I sold a recent snowboarder pic for 6 credits which would have been just 3 a few days ago.

The thing is, if you are creative and productive, and put a lot of work in, you can make a decent bit of pocket money. It all pales into insignificance if you get some shots on Getty though, where you start getting "proper" money for them.

The overall problem with microstock like Fotolia though is that there are more & more people doing it just like we are, and they now have so many pics online that the chances of yours getting spotted decrease day by day.

Re: I just sold my 1st photo on Fotolia UK

Go for it! Just find your pic, hit edit, and scroll down to the pricing bit. You should be able to adjust the minimum price and all the others adjust automatically. You can change the extended licence price as well independently.

Sorted.

edit: you're just being flash with 160 sales. It's those buses I reckon.

I did have to remove one that was doing quite well... don't ask

Just upped the prices, and uploaded some more that I had knocking around my laptop.

Re: I just sold my 1st photo on Fotolia UK

Cheers everybody for the replies.......will have to work harder and try and workout what sells the most........once done a small trial checking what sold the most on Ebay over a set amount of days and the photo's that sold by a large margin was of Trains The older the better.

So will have to make a point of traveling further to get some good pics and get them on there......

Thanks for the info people.

Not surprising! Search "London Bus" and you're right there at the top.

iceman, you would probably do well uploading loads of local Edinburgh shots - tourist locations and the like. Just keep punting them online.
I'm sure they would go down a treat on there.

Well done Iceman, is a nice feeling your first sale of anything I feel, I managed to sell my first canvas picture of one of my photo's the other week at a wedding fair of all places. Gives you a bit of confidence if nothing else in your photography.
