Tokina 12-24mm, any users?

I am seriously considering a wider angle lens. I have looked at a lot of reviews and this comes up pretty well for build quality and sharpness etc. I have looked at the sigma version that is more money and seems to not be reviewed so well and also the 10-20mm that I have heard so many reports with focusing issues etc.

Questions are:

Any one use on on here?

Will i regret not having the 10-12mm focus? (i dont have a 10-20mm though)

On one stop the tokina is the same price as the sigma 10-20mm any way and has constant F4.

Any advice welcome.

Re: Tokina 12-24mm, any users?

I'm interested as well as my 10-20 is fine on a 1.6x crop camera but vignettes badly from 10-14mm on my 1.3x 1D. The 12-24 is apparently full-frame capable so should work fine with the 1D.

I should say that I am looking to use it on a 350D.

Re: Tokina 12-24mm, any users?

I've got the sigma 10-20 but I've always kind of felt that I would have been better spending the extra at the time on the Tokina. I don't feel you'd miss that much between 10 and 12mm personally, I've started to take more pictures with my sigma from 12mm upwards as it gets a bit fish eyed the sigma at around 10mm IMO.

Dug up some user reviews below for the Tokina :

Yeah thats the reviews I looked at too (thanks anyway) but like I say they are curently the same price on one-stop.

Can any one provide some difference between 10 and 12mm?

I have one of these and I'm fairly sure it isn't.

[EDIT] For APS-C sensors - see here.

I doubt it - the 10mm end is fun, but starts to get a bit useless for series photography

Have a look through my flickr - just about everything in the last few months has been using it . Exif data will tell you which isn't

@Tobers - I'm almost certain that it isn't FF cabable, I remember trying it on my F3 and it was like looking thorugh a hole in a fence. You might just about get away with it on a 1.3x body though. I'll check tonight.

Re: Tokina 12-24mm, any users?

Have a read

The Hillingdon Trail with the Tokina 12-24

A walk with my new Tokina 12-24

should cover most of the queries raised above

I have it and Like it too.
It will cause significant vignetting below 17mm on a FF and is not recommended for FF for that reason but it can be used with that limitation

I believe the sigma 12-24 works on full frame.

Re: Tokina 12-24mm, any users?

Tokina seems to get good reviews. Only downside seems to be it produces quite a bit of CA but I guess this is easily removed and when it's stoped down you'll get less CA
