Another Retro Camera

Thought this might be of passing interest to some of you.

I have loads of old cameras stuffed away in boxes, which seemed a bit pointless if no one sees them, so i thought i would photograph some of the more unusual ones and stick them on here.

This is an Ilford Advocate, 35mm roll film and made in the early 1950,s
With a Dalmeyer 35mm, F3.5 lens, top shutter speed of 200.
Cast metal white enamel body
Note the shutter release lever to the left of the viewfinder
Will dig some others out over the weeks and stick them on here

Re: Another Retro Camera

wow - that sure is pretty

uncoupled VF with a pancake looking lens - who made the lenses for Ilford i wonder?

shutter release looks like a leaf shutter release - except its no-where near the lens....

please post more

I think i have them all except the rollieflex, but have about a dozen other TLRs, i must have about 3 or 4 Ensign Ful Vues they made them in 5 colours, i have a grey one and the common black.

Not too sure exactly what constitutes a lomo, but i have 2 russian Lubitels
I think they are medium format TLRs, they sold pretty cheap in their day, one is metal bodied and is plastic type material (mk1 & mk 2) used to have a 35mm Lomo compact but years ago i made the mistake of lending it to my teenage son to take on holiday to Spain with his mates, never saw it again

By the way PP, this weeks AP has a review of the Alpha 200 and an article about a Holga camera.

If i can find one of the Lubitels, and it would be of use to you, you can have it for the cost of the postage

Thanks for the heads up on the review, regarding the older stuff....I would be only keen on 35mm stuff. Never used medium format

But thanks very much for the offer.

Re: Another Retro Camera

you don't happen to have any yashica-mats or other metered TLRs by any chance?

would be interested in knowing how you found them if you do, as I am thinking of trying to get hold of one so i can really confuse myself with the back to front waist level finder

Re: Another Retro Camera

I did have a yashicamat Dan, i remember it had a sticky shutter though, not sure if i still have it, but i will look at what i do have in TLRs, wont be overnight though, i have 8 large fille storage boxes full of them along with about 40 clockwork cinecameras.

I collected all these about 15-20 years ago and have not even looked in the boxes for about 10 years, i know that there are none that are really valuable in there, must be at least 50 folders and 50 box cameras in various condition.

I started collecting them to take my mind of something serious happening in my life at the time, and it worked i searched boot sales every weekend and local auction rooms and generally let it known to people that i collect them.
To be honest they dont owe me a penny as a lot of then modern stuff came my way as well and i sold that at a profit which financed the collectables.

It's not confusing, after a couple of hundred films you just get the knack

You just can't beat the Rolleiflex's

Nice!

That Rollei is a bit bling for my tastes.

Although having said that I have just purchased a Bronica S2a (with the chrome edges)
