Lightbulb Need some help deciding on a camera...

Hi all,

I've decided to invest in a digital camera as my iPhone is quite poor in a lot of conditions and doesn't exactly have much functionality!

I am looking for a camera that costs less than £200, ideally.

It will mostly be used for taking pictures of my college projects, friends, and the odd scene or close up on something interesting (for the budding photographer inside me).

I have been looking at the Panasonic Lumix FZ8 but wanted to know whether there was a more 'bang for buck' camera I could get.

Thank you all.

Looking to invest in a new camera with more of a zoom, and found this which may be worth considering:

Canon Powershot A720is gets very good reviews. I had the A710is and couldnt fault it. You should get one for between £120 - £150, Jessops have it on offer at £149

Heres a review.

S3 IS is old and not that good. Personally, I would avoid it.

Re: Need some help deciding on a camera...

Thanks guys.

Any opinions on this camera:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131849

I searched but couldn't really find any detailed information about it.

It looks very nice and I looked at some of the pictures on Flickr of the model below it and they were fantastic...

Thanks!

Re: Need some help deciding on a camera...

I have an opinion (FWIW). Aparently the colour rendition is meant to be OK. AA batteries suck and there's no image stabilisation (Fuji's version of OIS is to automatically adjust shutter speed and ISO - which sucks even more).

Research reviews on DPReview if you find something you think is on the short list. The S9600 might be a better option if you want to carry a pocketload of AA's around.

You asked for opinions. This is mine.

Re: Need some help deciding on a camera...

The IQ isn't as good as the FZ8, but the wider angle and longer range might be useful. I'd opt for the 8 over the 18 personally. The extra ££'s for the 18 (IMHO) isn't justified. If you're spending that kinda money, you'd may as well go for the FZ50.

It's the wider angle and longer zoom range that I'm looking at, and the FZ50 is about £80 more from what I can find and only has a 12xzoom opposed to a x18.

Still looking for whats about though
