Tobers skiing shots

Having fun in Val D'Isere at the moment. Here's a couple of pics from the freestyle competition they had here yesterday. I was trying fill flash in anger for the first time. Very tricky balancing the exposure against the sky.

I'm too jealous for words.
It's freezing cold over here - and not in a good way!
Enjoy!

Re: Tobers skiing shots

Nice shots Tobers - but you'd have to pay me 8000 Euros to go up in one of those things. I've been up in twin engine Cessnas, and almost split my knuckles open..... I was clenching my fist that hard

Still, amazing view, and great photographs.

Re: Tobers skiing shots

I like the tones and textures in number 4, and the framing too even though it wouldn't normally be 'my kind of shot'.

You must have had a great time capturing 6 & 7! Very nice shots all round Tobers.

Re: Tobers skiing shots

Shooting ski stuff is a grin I've only done it once but found using manual exposure (sunny 16 rule as a starting point and then tweaking from there) really helped simplify things as it didn't matter what proportions of snow/sky/skier were in the shot - the exposure was the same every time.

I made it nice and easy for myself by ensuring the sun was blasting my subjects as well as the scene as a whole. I guess backlit subjects and fill flash is a lot more tricky to get right. I don't seem to have much luck with the exposures whenever I use my flash gun

Re: Tobers skiing shots

Hi ya

Very nice set off shots.

Fancy a bit off microlite myself this year. Was a choice between that and paragliding of a mountain last year, so jumped of a mountain. But if we go back to Turkey this year have told the wife its microlite this year.

Cheers Holo

Re: Tobers skiing shots

A great set of shots there Tobers. I especially like shot 12, good choice of composition with the rocky backdrop on that one. No. 7 makes me feel a bit queezy mind you , excellent pic though
