70-300mm f4-5.6 dg macro (sigma)

i need some advise quick please
I bought the Nikon D40 kit last week and then bought the sigma 70-300 from jesops.when i got home i discovered that the lens had no auto focus.now i dont mind using manual but can i use it to effect or is it the wrong kind of lens.I can get my money back within 30 days but if the lens is still ok to use ill keep it..
any advise will be greatly recieved.

Sounds like you really wanted an auto focus lens, so if I were you I would take it back and tell them that you were wrongly sold a manual lens.

It needs to be a sigma HSM to work on the D40 in auto

D40. Makes lens choices expensive doesn't it? Sorry to hear your troubles, but I'm glad for once that I have another brand (I also have the 70-300mm). Excellent lens, but you really do need it with AF functioning.

The Sigma 70-300 APO is now available with HSM AF motor for Nikon D40/x/60. Jessops seem to stock it. Does seem more expensive though
