My son, the TV star!

My 7 year old son Jonny was lucky enough on Wednesday to read for the part of 'Jake the Elf' for a kids animated TV show called 'Little Kingdom'. It is being made by the same team who made Peppa Pig (if you don't have kids you probably have no idea what I am talking about but Peppa is the TV show if you are a 3 year old girl!)

We had to travel to that London to a swanky recording studio. It was a great experience and I don't know who enjoyed it more me or Jonny!

The studio was the same one that Peter Sallis recorded his part for the Wallace and Gromit film. Other stars who have recorded there include Ricky Gervais, Ewan McGregor and John Cleese. So we felt right at home then!

Anyway, obviously I took lots of photos and here are the best. The lighting was pretty poor so all of these were taken with my 50mm f/1.8 at ISO 1600. I've used Neat Image to try to get rid of most of the noise...

1. Dave the sound engineer

2. Nev, one of the two directors

3. Jonny and Mark, the other director, in the recording studio

4. Jonny enjoying himself

5. Jonny and the script

6. I was so proud of him!

The last 4 photos are the epitamy of "keepers".

He certainly did. He was in his element. He loves to talk and loves the sound of his own voice so this gave him an opportunity to show off for an hour.

Thanks Steve. It came about because my brother works on the programme and he found out that they were looking for a 7 - 9 year old boy with a regional accent to play the part of Jake. I recorded Jonny saying some lines from the show on my PC and emailed it to my brother. He played it to the directors of the show and persuaded them to audition Jonny. They agreed and invited us for a 30 minute slot on Wednesday.

We were meant to be having the 10-10.30 slot with another kid on at 10.30 but the other kid went off skiing for the week so we got both slots.

They haven't decided yet if he has the part for Jake but they did say that they would probably use his voice for crowd shots.

I bet your daughter has enjoyed her fair share of "muddy puddles" too!

My brother worked on the 2nd series of Peppa Pig as well so I am well aware of the work of the pink pig despite not having a daughter....

Thanks Jenufa. Despite living Oop North, I am actually a Southerner so no passport needed.

I moved up there 4 years ago and tried my best to get Jonny to keep his nice Southern accent but have failed miserably! I felt a bit like King Canute with the sea! We regularly have discussions about the "correct" way to say grass, bath and pass...

OK I have no idea what this show is....but I can say....FANTASTIC! If I was still a wee boy this would be so exciting. You can see the joy on his face. Good luck Simon and Johnny!

If my experience is anything to go by - you'll need to look at for "buzz" (public transport) and "buuks" (to read) ... I'm a laughing stock at work

Looks like you had a very memorable day

I have the buzz problem with my girlfriend. She is from Dudley and she confused me completely when directing me when I was driving her home just after we first met by saying "turn left by the buzz". It took me a while to work out she meant the bus stop...
