Historic Rally at Croft

Had yet another enjoyable day at Croft watching some rather pretty classic cars undertale trials around the track.

What was nice is that the organisers were faily relaxed and you could be faily much anywhere you wanted to take photos.

I took advantage of this but remained behind the armco next to the rally cross circuit where there was a nice water splash

So here are the photos:

1) Simon Pearson and Nick Cooper - Austine Healy Sprite (Looks a bit like a Midget to me)

2) David Marsden and Mike Garstang - For Cortina MKI

3) John Park and Roland Bainbridge - MKI (Frogeye) Sprite. Had a chat with guys as I was leaving, seems they were having a wale of a time

4) Adrian Stewart and Tom Hind - Austin Cooper S. I still have a soft spot for these cars

5) Aidan and Mike Rushby - It says Sunbeam Talbot but it looks more like an Alpine to me

6) Paul Wignall and Paul Bosdet - Alfa. Not sure which model though?

7) Charles Graves and Ron Palmer - Jag XK150. What a fantastic car

8) Dave Agnew and Graeme McTavish - Porsche 911

All taken with 1D MKIIn and 300 f/2.8.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

These are great! Make me all nostalgic and mutter "They don't make them like that anymore"

Favourite is the Mini SCooper, mainly because my first car was a Mini (not a Cooper)

The Alfa is a Giulietta Sprint Veloce of the late 50s/early 60s BTW.

Post more please!!

Mike

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

All very nice. You can't beat a bit of eye contact. Some of the sideways stuff and mud slinging is great.

Being picky, i'd probably pick #5 as the best shot as it's the only one without something distracting in the background. As you were at a race circuit, I'm sure it was quite difficult to avoid such things.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

All supremely sharp and really well exposed shots, but the one thing that really makes it for me is that the passenger in #2 is wearing a flat cap!!!

Brilliant!

Yup, a nice set indeed. Good all round captures.

Anyone for Thruxton 2008? Would be a good photo op.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

You're right about the misnamed cars. Worrying that the organisers got them wrong...!

Brilliant shots.

The results with the MkIIN and 300 2.8 are incredible.

Post them in this thread, no reason to start a new one.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

Stunning shots, superbly sharp.
Really want to get to more Rally and motorsport events this year to use my 70-200 2.8 in anger.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

Thanks for those, like the 911 the best. Amazing to think that Porsche still build that same design 40 years later, albeit much updated.

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

A quality set. I hope you got contact details for these drivers, i'm sure they'll help you pay for that glass with some print sales

I think the Cortina is my pick - but then i'm bias, as I had a Mk1 GT in the early 90's

Re: Historic Rally at Croft

I didn't get details and they guys I was with, who frequent the POTN forum, are the official photographers, so would not want to step on their toes
