Replacement for 400d kit lens-help please.

Hi all

Thinking of buying a lens to replace the kit lens.Just doesnt seem to be sharp enough,im presuming its not my shooting.Ive recently bought a tripod so stability is not the problem.
I already own a Tamron 70-200mm so want something with a different range, similar to the kit I suppose.
Any suggestions in the 200-250 quid range.

Thanks.

Re: Replacement for 400d kit lens-help please.

Hi mate,

Recently got a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens to use instead of the kit Sony 18-70 lens, which is ok, but the Sigma I'm hoping is so much better. still haven't used yet...... Its a big lense though............but at £201 form OSD its good value i feel.

Got it from here...

Hi ya

I replaced the 400d kit lens with the Tamron 17 -50mm f2.8 and am very happy with it.

Canons new IS kit lens is decent, a big step up. But its still slow.

The tamron is the best replacement unless yur keen on IS, or want canons f2.8IS zoom.

Re: Replacement for 400d kit lens-help please.

Right,im pretty much decided between the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 or the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro Lens.

Done quite a lot of comparing but could anyone give me a bit of advice on which one is best. The extra 20mm of the Sigma would be handy but is not more important than quality.

Thanks.

Re: Replacement for 400d kit lens-help please.

Not a Cannon user or in fact own neither of those lens's but the tamron being a constant f2.8 would swing it for me I think.
I know being a constant aperture doesnt guarantee a better quality lens but if the lens's were of similar quality, build and features the constant aperture would win out for me.

Edited to ask would the sigma 24-60 F2.8 EX DG lens not suit? Thinking of one of these for my NIkon after hearing a few good things about them, unsure if they are good for a cannon. Being an EX lens would be better than the other sigma lens you mentioned

Re: Replacement for 400d kit lens-help please.

Hi ya

Was in the same boat as you are now Dognuts, just before Christmas, now you got to decide between length or constant f2.8.

The constant f2.8 won it for me.
