Salesman of the Year....

This will make you laugh. So back in the summer, I effectively lost my job so I had to find something. I started working for a large camera shop, no names, but not Jessops.....err, that leaves one or two then.

Anyway, I suppose you could say I know my lemons but in Dec, I got salesman of the Year award as I hit £53,500 in sales in the 20 trading days in Dec alone. The nearest guy to me had £44k and then in our store, £19k. Overall, our shop finished top in the national league/sales charts, which pleased everyone and I got a nice bonus, a few tit bits from various manufacturers, such as a TZ3, hopefully a nice Gshock watch and a god awful 'shield' which now has my name engraved on it, to be handed back next Dec.

The irony? Well, I am so bored about talking about cameras, I have to find something else. There is a weird paradox working in camera retail. You end up chatting about cameras all day, but not actually taking any pix. Still nice to be successful for a change - me and work have never really got on.

Think I will have to go back to being a sock model. I was the best there was. From the ankle down, no one could touch me.

Pete.

Selling snow to eskimos?
Hope they gave you a worthy bonus Pete!

Now you've conquered the photographic world... what next?

I have a few goals/targets for you to sort out :-

1) Global warming
2) cold fusion
3) Zero noise at ISO 6400

Good luck with them!

All the best for 2008

Pete: Enthusiasm is infectious and folk buy from folk.....so I can see why you do so well in one to one situations. Well done. I hope you find something else that allows you time for your own work but helps pay the inevitable bils.

All the best for 08

Re: Salesman of the Year....

Congratulations

It may feel a tad boring at times but I assure you , you are being rewarded for industry.
Im sure your "know how" and not any sales pressure tactics has led to this and its great to know you can actually pay the bills doing something that comes to you naturally!

In my job ( and Im sure many others) you also get to talk about the same things fairly repetitively but Im aware that many of the folk I speak to actually say it makes a difference to them after the discussion. That keeps one going

Even if you only take a few quality photos 2-3 times a month , you can keep in practice, and show your clients you practice what you preach
If your Store retails camcorders ect you could develop an interest in that to keep from getting "bored"
Otherwise 2008 is here and something more challenging will hopefully turn up
Well done

Re: Salesman of the Year....

Superb stuff! Confgratulations. I'm sure it's well deserved. I think finding an expert in one of these chains is probably such a relief that people just buy from you out of sheer happiness. You clearly have the knack. Well done!
