A couple from a newbie.

Got my a100 yesterday and have been having a play.

Decided to jump in with both feet and enter the photo comp for the first time too.

Any feedback welcome.

Re: A couple from a newbie.

Ahoy Dave!

Good 4 u mucker! If you can, adjust the white balance for the type of shot you take (Auto is OK, but . . .) Don't forget the DoF button on the front of the camera (useful little thing).

Plug away and enjoy it. If you need any website links or recommended settings data, let me know via PM (send me your direct email) so I can send attachments.

Image #1 looks kinda nice though. I'm assuming you tried flash on #2 and #3. Flash compensation (press the Av button on the back whilst turning the knobbly wheel on top) is a bit trial and error, though the closer you are the less oomph you need from the pop-up flash. Try it.

Keep posting and good luck in the comp (which ends tonight)!

Re: A couple from a newbie.

Cheers Pirate, some good advice there.

I had a good play this afternoon with the manual settings and can't believe the difference white balance makes.

Loving the a100, I'm starting to get to grips with it and the control an SLR gives you is amazing. Very happy with it.

Re: A couple from a newbie.

I feel your happiness . . . . FYI, mij is offering his Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro, filters etc in the For Sale section @ £xx.xx inc. postage if you're after a medium range zoom. I got one of these . . it's one of those darned decent lenses for not a lot of dosh.

Happy holidays to you and yours.

Yeah I saw that but I'm afraid the pennies are well and truly spent for now.

Happy holidays to you and yours too.

Re: A couple from a newbie.

Another one from today of the lab snuggling up to my wife's pregnant belly.

The colour of her pajamas made it a nightmare but I'm quite pleased with the result.

Re: A couple from a newbie.

It was worth it because I think the colour and pattern in the PJs really helps make the image

Re: A couple from a newbie.

Lovely shot... I must get some of my dog. As a newbie I'm still really impressed with the clarity and "realness" a DSLR gives a picture...don't think it will ever wear off to be honest

Re: A couple from a newbie.

Thanks guys. The realness really is a boon after years of taking shots on full auto on my point and shoot.

Should have gone DSLR years ago.
