Smile Yesterday at Milton Abbey...

Went for an afternoon wander to Milton Abbey yesterday and took the opportunity to have a go at shooting in RAW. Came up with this from one of the shots I took - what do you think, have I gone too far?!

Was having some trouble linking back to Flickr... now sorted

I've also uploaded a couple of others from yesterday:-

Used a levels adjustment layer to emphasise some of the clouds in the sky in this one. I think it works well, but don't know whether I was just fiddling for the sake of fiddling!

More sizes available on Flickr - C&C welcome

Re: Yesterday at Milton Abbey...

The first shot looks nicely spooky and malevolent. I like the red sign against the wall as well - that's my fave of the three I think. The last one is OK, but you need to watch cropping off the top of the building (on the first as well).

Thanks for the feedback Tobers

Know what you mean about the cropping - I was annoyed at myself when reviewing the third one The first was initially OK, but the shot needed a bit of straightening and I lost a little of the headroom I had as a result...

You live and learn Next one's will be better

Re: Yesterday at Milton Abbey...

I think the first shot has potential but it is slightly underexposed in the bottom half of the pic

kevantlin,

Thanks for the comment

The original is pretty much spot on from an exposure POV, the lack of detail in the lower part of the picture is something I induced during procesing (perhaps not a good thing )...

I created a levels adjustment layer in Photoshop to darken, and create a little more texture in the sky, then removed the mask using a soft brush to reveal the detail on the building. I neglected the very bottom, and tree section to the right thinking it would detract from the Abbey, but may revisit it to see if restoring the detail helps

Thanks again for the feedback

Re: Yesterday at Milton Abbey...

Very nice shots.
I don't actually mind the cropping off 'of the top'. It doesn't affect the subject - we all can tell what it is. It's called 'closure'.
