I need a new photo printer £100 - £120

I am looking for a photo printer to replace an Epson r300 which has caused me nothing but grief for the last year ( software / driver probs). I will mainly be printing 6 x 4 " but will also need A4 prints and anything in between.

Desirable:

- Good quality prints.

- Not too sore on ink

- within budget.

- No software glitches

Have always stayed away from all in one type printers - I have a photo scanner that I am happy with so would really like the best stand alone for my req's.

Personal recommendations would be appreciated

Re: I need a new photo printer £100 - £120

the epson stylus photo r220 has been solid the past 2 years for me, was originally £50/£60, I believe it was released after the r300, though not certain. Though discontinued you may still be able to purchase new on ebay. The latest models Epson r285(£70) uses 'claria' ink, six inks, the next model up is the r360, might be worth a shout.

a useful tip - turn printer off when not in use to prevent the ink drying & clogging up the ole printer

Re: I need a new photo printer £100 - £120

I similarly had an Epson r300 whose paper feed mechanism was always a trial of patience, and CD printing was only right after 3rd attempt each time!!.
When it worked its output was excellent but in the end it started chewing paper and had to go!
I replaced it with a Canon Pixma ip 4300 and have since had no regrets
As such I would say The Canon Pixma series is well worth a look
ip 5300 or ip 4500 ( or even 4300).. All 3 under £100
Im not sure why you had driver/ software problems. It may be your PC and if so it may happen whichever printer you get

Re: I need a new photo printer £100 - £120

I would like to ask a question or several.

Is the image quality as good as a proper print?
How much are you forking out for paper and ink?
Have you calculated the costs between home printing and professional prints?

FWIW, I would upload to Photobox and get them done 'properly' AND if you have a need to canvas prints, go to IntelligenceDirect.

I'm old, and there's wolves out there. I costed this myself some time ago, and came to the conclusion . . leave it to the professionals. Just my 2 doubloons worth. Take nothing from it.

Re: I need a new photo printer £100 - £120

Im not sure what the Op wants but I have long found that there is ample room for a photoprinter in the house for small instant results , creative work done on a Sunday evening or something to give your guests immediately and impress them..
Oh and home made "proofs"
And there is a place for Photobox, Asda, Tescos, Kodak Express and Snappy snaps ect

Intelligence Direct ( whom I have used several times is for large canvas prints , not Instant A4 prints your photo printer can generate within minutes and cost less than similar size from a shop, online or High St
Having owned an R300 Im sure he must be aware that Ink and Photopaper costs add up but for casual Home use and few copies it shouldn't prove exorbitant

Photoprinters can give excellent results but I wouldn't print 40 4x6" prints on them as they are a costly way to print a lot of photos but if you prefer not to own one , it doesnt mean they dont have thier place

I've now bought a grand total of 4 Canon Pixma class A4 photo printers for home, work and parents and not had a bad one yet

I recently replaced my old R200 for a R285, so far so good.
