Looking for a basic point-and-shoot digital camera - recommendations?

I'm looking for a basic, very easy to use camera for a friend. That's very easy to use for someone who isn't a gadget freak, doesn't know a pixel from a pixie, isn't going to want to bother with negotiating a lot of menus, and just wants to take decent quality snaps from time to time.

I'm not well up on digital cameras: is there a standard recommendation? If not, any specific suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Bert

Without wishing to sound unduly Scroogelike, the cheaper the better.
