Re: Pics dissappeared

The biggest danger at times like these, is that if the first thing you do DOESN'T work, you may limit your options thereafter. Assuming there's some stuff on the disk that's worth a bit of time...and maybe expense to retrieve I would:-

a) Remove the HDD from your current system
b) Connect it to a different PC as a slave (you may need to swap a jumper over to do this)
c) Use a disk imaging prog to create an image of the disk as it is now. My preference is for Acronis True Image but other progs do a similar job.

Then you can try other recommended tricks to recover the lost data but if they fail and you suspect the disk has got (further) corrupted along the way, you can use the image (a specific kind of backup) to give you another crack at it.

Re: Pics dissappeared

They just seem to be Capture One thumbnail previews though. It probably creates a cache of viewed folders to save regenerating each time.

Did your NEF search come up with anything?

Re: Pics dissappeared

Maybe a silly question, but when was the last time you looked at them on that drive?

Hi Vulkan...............

Have a look.....maybe it will help...

http://forum.phaseone.com/viewtopic.php?=&p=11484

having a look at the screen shot I see the files are NOT associated with anything, so I did a search for .C1w+file association and the above thread has come up at the top 3 times.

Like I say, not sure if that helps but you never know!

Re: Pics dissappeared

Try doing a serach of *all files* between 2-5 MB (I think that would cover D80 NEF's)

Sort by name, and take a look around the D's

Don't know if it's been asked before, but can you rename the files?

Re: Pics dissappeared

You could try PC Inspector which is free and I know of people that have used it to recover corrupted files.
