CF for Canon 400D

I'm looking to buy a Canon 400D.
Of all the "extras" that need to be considered, I feel a good size Compact Flash card is essential.

I see a lot of people recommending the Sandisk Extreme III cards and was honestly going to order myself a 4GB one in preperation for the camera purchase.
However as I was browsing around I found:

Lexar 8GB 133x CF for £76.37inc VAT & Delivery.
Apparently this is a saving of nearly £40.
Can anyone coment on Lexar CF cards - more importantly has anyone got any horror stories that might totally put me off this purchase?

Hi

I use the Lexar Premium 80x cards in mine and they are flawless.

Re: CF for Canon 400D

I use SanDisk 4GB Extreme IV's which can be had off ebay for £20-£30! Really good value, I prefer to have it split over 2 cards as opposed to 1 8GB card..

I use Bid Assistant in ebay which helps when trying to buy something like this, instructions on how to use are on ebay, but in short it allows you to set up a group with 10 items and will bid on each one in turn until you win one inside your max bid.

Hope this helps,
R

Re: CF for Canon 400D

You maybe alright with an Ultra II because the camera's write speed will be the bottleneck and not the card's write speed. This link may help

Watch out for Bid Assistant - it really isn't that helpful.

Because it bids constantly irrespective of how much time is left on the auction, all it succeeds in doing is constantly bumping up the final selling price of multiple auctions.

Much better is EzSniper - this places a bid in the last few seconds of the auction, thus making sure you get the lowest possible price. You can select multiple auctions and make them contingent one one-another so that once you have won one item it stops bidding.

Re: CF for Canon 400D

Given the price from play.com (I have purchased 2 or 3 from them) you may wish to consider 2 x 2GB instead of 1 x 4GB thereby not keeping all your photos in the one basket.

Also beware of scams that are rife on Ebay particularly with compact flash cards

Re: CF for Canon 400D

I like the idea of not keeping all of the photos in "one basket" so to speak.
The 8GB card I've seen is from a quite legitimate source:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/122866

I'm tempted to grab one of these as it obviously gives me plenty of storage.
The prices at Play for the 2GB & 4GB cards are also good - may have to stock up

Just about every Sandisk memory card on ebay is a fake, just a cheapy OEM slow card with a sandisk sticker on.

best to buy real memory cards from a genuine supplier.
