Re: Christmas In Bournemouth

Thanks Dennis. Just for Dennis & the 76 who looked at the pictures, Here's another one I forgot to add yesterday. I took all these hand held with the Sigma 18-200. f3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens. I was experimenting with various settings. Most were taken at the Wide angle end. I assume this means the 'light factor' is f3.5. I'm guessing if I get the 'Nifty Fifty' I can lower either the ISO or Aperture settings & perhaps be able to go to a faster shutter speed?

Re: Christmas In Bournemouth

I'm not criticizing your shots in any way,
but had you have had a tripod, and a slower shutter speed, to add some movement to your shots, they'd have been better.

But they are cool shots. Nice one!!

It's the criticism that I want. I like taking night pictures & want help to improve them. I was wanting a faster shutter speed to stop people blurring, however you think that seeing the people 'move' improves the picture, interesting. The last picture was on a 'tripod' a rubbish bin in fact .

Re: Christmas In Bournemouth

Rubbish bin, tripod, same thing

I like night pics too. Always something interesting worth shooting at night.

I like 'movement' in shots.
That's why I'm not putting your pics down, as they are great, but I like a bit of blur. Just my personal preference!

I also like shooting aircraft, and as an example, a plane with props looks so much better with a slightly slower shutter speed, which blurs the props, and gives the moving effect. Same with choppers......

The beauty of shotting in the dark is that the cam doesn't get too much light, so you can catch these movement effects.

Crank the ISO down to 100, and slow the shutter speed down to 20 or even 30 seconds. You do most def need a tripod tho for these kind of shots.
And perhaps even a shutter release cable. Or use the self timer......
