Which Photo Printer

Not sure where to post this, but this section probably the best place for knowledge so here goes.

Which is currently the best value photo printer? Will only be printing normal photo size pictures, so no need for a full A4 printer unless they are better for the money.

Suggestion would be most appreciated.

Re: Which Photo Printer

just binned my old Epson R200 and bought a R285, very happy with it so far!

I use a PC so the models (R360 etc) with a built in LCD to view my pic's are a waste of money for me.

Re: Which Photo Printer

I bought a Canon Selphy ES1 last Christams with some pennies from Nanna, got PC world to price match it to 89.99, not cheap but the quality is outstanding (been a dye sub the same as labs use).

It prints 6 by 4 from sd cards, attaches to a puter via usb or attach a bluetooth dongle and send pictures from your phone. Works out about 20p a print, not cheap but for Grandparents and kids parties its great.

Also a point to consider is Snapfish, prints from 8p each, can collect at Jessops if you want and again quality to blow any inkjet out of the water.

Re: Which Photo Printer

I got a Kodak Easyshare 5300 from PC World mainly on the strength of their "cheap ink" sales blurb. A black and a colour cartridge together cost £16, or £7 for black only and £10 for colour only. The printer itself was only £99.99 from PC World.

Quality is extremely good on their 4star paper. Very impressed. Use the pukka paper though - the printer knows what paper it is and sorts itself out.

Re: Which Photo Printer

For 6x4's you can't go far wrong with the Canon Selphy range. I bought one with 2 packs of 108 prints (paper and ribbon) for a shade over £90. If you don't mind polluting your machine with Canon software, it's easy to use and gives excellent results.

I use my plugged via USB, so have no use for the LCD screen - but i've heard it's just as easy to use as a stand alone.

Re: Which Photo Printer

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Will check out snapfish in a bit, but not sure how well an internet service will work when you consider the average size of a picture from a 7mp camera and the 256k upload speeds you get via ADSL.

Re: Which Photo Printer

Internet service is pretty good, last time I used bonus print I think I did 150 prints, just set it going sunday night at bedtime and pics arrived in the mail Tuesday morning, printing at home will normally work out a lot more expensive than walking into boots or using an internet service.

Printing at home is convinent though

Re: Which Photo Printer

If you do a search under printers you will probably find what you need.
There is no "best"
Ive used excellent Hp , an lovely Epson R300 ( before it gave up) and a Canon Pixma Ip 4300.. Very good indees
Full A4 size printers are better value for money (IMHO) but they arent portable and "cute." Dont forget you can print More per page in differnt sizes and cut them out

Home Photo have thier place and no Photo setup is complete without them but as with all printers, bulk printing gets expensive if you don't go to the high or use the online services

Re: Which Photo Printer

We're a 3 colour printer household at the moment

We've an elderly HP1200C A3, an Epson CX6400 and a Canon IP6700D. At work I use an HP5550, and a pair of Canons.

I'm VERY happy with the Canon performance, particularly with Canon paper, so I'd say take a look at the A4 Pixma range. You can pick up a nice mid range one for about £50.
