I need a very basic, idiot proof digi camera

I want to buy my mum her first digital camera for xmas. She is a complete technophobe so I need a camera thats very easy to use.

I only want to spend upto £100 as she will only be using it for family pics and general use, she certainly doesn't need any fancy functions on it.

Any ideas please?

#I hope she doesn't use the 'net or you might not be getting anything in return...

Most compact point and shoot cameras are simple enough to use, you just point and shoot!

Re: I need a very basic, idiot proof digi camera

A few months ago I needed to buy a similar specced camera for my dad. In the end I went for a Fuji F31fd. Looking on the web it seems that the successor (I'm assuming it's the successor) is just out of your budget on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuji-FinePix...4349642&sr=8-3

I choose the F31fd as firstly it was meant to be easy to use, and secondly I liked the sound of its very good low light performance. I decided that my dad would be more likely to be able to take shots inside and them not come out blurred.

From the looks of things the F31fd seems to be more expensive than it's successor though, so maybe there's a reason for that... Not sure?

I'm not sure if that helps...

Re: I need a very basic, idiot proof digi camera

Here are some camera reviews that may help.
Remember, go for optical not digital zoom, all digital zoom does is degrade the picture quality.
I would still recommend having a optical view finder as this helps when things get really dark or in bright sunlight.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html

Most are beyond the £100 mark but there are loads of reviews at the bottom of the page.

Good luck.

Re: I need a very basic, idiot proof digi camera

the bigger problem you need to think about is not a camera that takes photos easily but who's gonna deal with getting them off the camera, printed and backed up

Can boots etc print a memory cad and give you a cd backup at the same time now ?
