Avebury Stone circle

Had to go see some folk near Stonehenge yesterday, going back again today in fact. Anyway, I had thought to get in to the circle after I'd finished when it was going to get dark and then do some photo's. Of course, it closes at 4.30 so no chance.....Instead I drove north to Avebury to see if I could do similar thing there. I wanted to use my off camera flash stuff and I also have a £17 torch from Homebase to play with.

I am sure the folk driving past who saw the nutter in a field with a large torch painting the standing stones must have wondered what on earth was going on.

Here you go. Only the last one of the three stones is done with the torch, others are off camera flash.

The last one is superb Gordon, very nice indeed. The other two don't do a lot for me though.

Re: Avebury Stone circle

The first two I am going to redo.

The last one was the last shot I took before heading back to car to throw up. Was really flu ey yesterday and still am. It was a laugh to do. I noticed that it had got so dark that 30 second exposures weren't getting any detail in sky. So I decided to out it on Bulb and keep trying to get exposure for sky better. So with this one I fired it off, waited 30 seconds then ran to right of camera, put on torch and fired it at side of big neareset stone. Then turned it off, ran to left of camera, turned it on and fired it at front of that stone and painted, then turned it off, ran behind the big stone and turned it on and painted the middle one, turned it off, ran to face the middle one....well you get the picture. There is a pub right beside this field and it must have looked comical....I was also amazed how little I needed to use the torch. It was one of those 3,500,000 candle power jobs. I only needed to g round the stones once and then turn off. It was VERY bright.

I actually think it was so bright I could do Stonehenge from behind the chain link fence if I tried..

Re: Avebury Stone circle

Yup that 3rd is a stunner Gordon.

The others look a bit soft but tbh they aren't in the same league anyway.

If you managed to get exclusive access to stonehenge and lighpainted that in the style of #3 then that would be epic!!

Re: Avebury Stone circle

Thanks for the comments guys.

I did a reccy down at stonehenge today just before it closed. I had a walk around the perimiter fence to see if it would be possible to take a cool torchy shot like number 3.....and I think it is. So I'll be checking the weather forecasts to see when we next have a lovely clear sky as I have an idea.....hahahaha

Cheers

G

Re: Avebury Stone circle

Yep - the last one is just fantastic. The stones look like they are glowing from the inside. Super contrast with the background as well. Definitely the pick of the bunch.

Re: Avebury Stone circle

Can only echo the comments. The first two do look a little soft, and pretty noisy too. Difficult to focus in such low light.

The 3rd is obaviously the stand out shot - but I think it coudl do with a little less intensity in the light.

Look forward to seeing some more
