Question Dirt through the viewfinder, but not on images

I have just noticed a speck of dirt / dust when looking through the viewfinder of my 40D. Thing is, it does not appear on any images - even an image of white paper @ f32.
It's not lens specific and I have cleaned the viewfinder eyepiece.
I'm not using the dust map (Dust Delete Data) feature of the 40D either.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Thanks
Gary

If I'm not mistaken I've read about somebody else on here having the same issue with the 40D. Can't remember who it was though.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Dirt through the viewfinder, but not on images

If it's sharply in focus it's probably on the focussing screen (the screen above the mirror). If it's blurry, it's probably on the mirror. A blower should shift it in either case (be careful not to touch either screen or mirror though).

Gunk on the focussing screen is a perennial problem though, and if it's not too distracting, it's probably not worth bothering with.

IQ is not affected in any way whatsoever.
It's just annoying - especially as I've only had the camera for 2 weeks.

I tried a rocket blower yesterday - at the sensor though as that was before I had deduced that it probably wasn't the sensor. Not sure whether to just leave it as is (as suggested) or to maybe give the inside a good blow with the mirror down.

Re: Dirt through the viewfinder, but not on images

It's either on the mirror, or more likely on the ground glass screen directly above. Either way, a direct blow with a rocket should shift it.
