Beth Chatto's Gardens on Saturday (not 56k friendly)

We spent Saturday afternoon at Beth Chatto's gardens near Colchester, in the hope of capturing some autumn colour. The light proved to be a complete washout (sun came out as we were driving home) , but I got a few shots that I'm reasonably happy with. It's a macro shooters paradise btw, as there are not only lots of spectacular plants, but the insect population has to be seen to be believed in high summer.

C&C welcome as always

You were certainly blessed with some crap and very flat light weren't you. The close up stuff is still do'able though and you have done a good job. I have a camera club outing to Arley Arboretum next Sunday so I'm hoping the light is better that what you had.

1 and 4 for me, the paths work well leading the eye.

Great colours, I had the same problem with skies today. The flower beds are the best shots IMO.

The macro shots are excellent - I think the light was just right for those being nice and soft. Anything with sunlight would have been too harsh and you'd have lost some of the saturation.

The longer shots are trickier though and would look lovely with a low glowing sun. Looks like you did the best with what you had though which is what it is all about.
