Canon Rebates and eBay sellers?

So from what I've read on quite a few forums, you can buy Canon stuff from the likes of Kerso on eBay, who imports his stuff from the US, and then still claim back the UK Canon rebates.

Now is this because he provides a receipt/invoice from a UK registered company? I understand that when sending the rebate to Canon you have to cut out the barcode from the packaging, but it's the receipt origin that really matters? Is this correct.

If this is true, then it should also work with other eBay sellers who have a UK registered company, but import their stuff from Hong Kong for example (they ship it directly from HK to you, is this the same with Kerso, US to you, or does it go through him first?)

I'm itching to order a Canon 10-22mm just want to make sure I'm getting a rock bottom price

Re: Canon Rebates and eBay sellers?

The thinkg with Kerso is that he sells his stuff from the UK. I've picked up a lens from him before in Scotland so he is a UK seller. I don't think it bother's Canon the fact that he imports his stuff what they want is a UK receipt.

If you buy from Hong Kong then the stuff (I think) comes straight from Hong Kong and you get a Hong Kong receipt as they do not have an address in the UK. Buying from Hong Kong directly means the product is kindof a grey import which is not the case with Kerso as he pays import duty I think. I'd suggest contacting kerso and asking to do the deal outwith ebay as that way you will get a better price.
