I hear you, and we are in 2007 , times have changed and our way of life has too
However , I still do my Car Tax at the Post office,
TV licence is DD ( ironically it costs more that way

)
Like all I post small packages there too given that we now have small and large "first class" packages and just putting a stamp is no longer sufficient
Also the issue of posting even a letter by recorded delivery or registered post means you have to go there from time to time
Not everyone has a Debit credit card or is comfortable to use them online and I dont know how any on income support who will be rejected for a bank account of any sort get thier income or entitlements
I do feel for those whose means of livelihood it is though as there is a place for modernising the Post Office without outmoding it completely
BTW .. many of the postal workers Ive met welcome you with a smile, dont huff and puff and seem pleased to have your business
