Bought a mirror lens

Probably a silly idea but fancied something longer than my 70 - 300 Sigma so have been scouring ebay - was keen on a Nikkor 500mm F5 mirror that was up on Wednesday night but that went for £280 !!! Silly money to my mind although I really fancied it.

Anyway have won tonights mirror auction - a Hanimex 500mm F8 macro mirror - hoping for loads of sunny days - did a quick search on Hanimex and not found anything to good to say about it yet - ah well was only £48 so will be OK for now.

If the posties go back to work soon it may arrive early to mid next week - will post some shots as soon as possible.

In the meantime here are three from the weekend. Highland cattle and Swan shot with the 17 - 70, Chaffinch through glass with the 17 - 70 - both Sigma lenses. Crop, USM and border with a small amount of levels adjustment. Chaffinch is nearly actual pixels, others have been reduced from near full frame.

Re: Bought a mirror lens

Nice purchase and for that money well worth a punt If they are sending via Parcel Farce they aren't involved so might be here sooner than you think

Some nice shots there, like the border alot

Re: Bought a mirror lens

Don't know the Hanimex, first time I've heard of one, but I have a Centon 500mm which I've had for many, many years. Have tried using it for moon photography but not entirely successfully - now I have a Nikon D80 with a better viewfinder (compared to my D50) I might give it another go though.

Re: Bought a mirror lens

Fozzy - The article I saw mentioned that the Centon is also badged under the Hanimex brand.

Had a play with a D80 myself the other day - amazed at how much bigger and brighter the viewfinder was than the D50 - am thinking about it !
