Help! I have done something to the AF on my 40D

I have recently changed my 400D for a 40D, and thought I was getting used to it until today.

The AF no longer beeps, and the cross points do not flash to show which ones are being used. The AF itself is still working, and I can still select the points on the top LCD.

It was working until yesterday, so I must have turned something off by mistake, but I cannot see what!

Does anybody have any idea?

Thanks. Got it in one.

I think I had better spend some time reading the manual.

Re: Help! I have done something to the AF on my 40D

Just got hold of a 40D myself this afternoon.

I would have answered your question exactly the same - check your AF setting. However, I just realized my camera was in One Shot but was not beeping on focus - time to break the callephane on the instruction book
There is in fact a Beep setting on the Menu under the 1st camera settings.
All sorted at my end

Yeah, you can turn the Beep on or off in the first menu, it's the same with the 350d and 400d.

Little OT, but how do you find the difference between the 400D and 40D ?

Worth the £600 extra (considering the price of selling a second hand 400D) ?

It is too early to say for sure, as I have only had it a week, and not had a chance to give it a proper workout. The 40D does feel a lot more 'sorted' than the 400D. It is much more solid, and the screen and viewfinder are both much better. I am not sure I will use Liveview that much, but it could come in handy.

There is no difference in IQ, but AF seems quicker, and I am sure I am getting better low light shots than I was able to with the 400D.

I haven't sold the 400D yet, but I am hoping to get about £250 for it, making the switch over cost about £500.
